For someone whose Multiply account is entitled "Paglalakbay", I sure don't travel much which is very disappointing. I wish Tintin and I can travel more and shade more areas on this map. My Lakbayan grade is C-! How much of the Philippines have you visited? Find out atLakbayan! Created by Eugene Villar.
....so little time.
I have decided to update my Multiply photo gallery and upload photos that I took during our out of town trips in the past years. Resizing and uploading the photos take a lot of time. One at a time.
Two days before elections, I joined Tintin and her friends on
a trip to Caramoan in Camarines Sur.
The trip was planned weeks before and everybody was excited. At least two of
Tintin's friends have been there but for the rest of us, it was our first time going
to the place.
Recent tourism publicity has made the Caramoan
Peninsula a target destination for
foreigners and local tourists alike. They go there to island hop, swim, snorkel,
and dive. There are also a number of caves you can explore. Unfortunately, we
passed off any opportunity for cave explorations since we didn't have the time.
The Caramoan Peninsula
is not that easy to reach. You need to travel to Naga
City where you take a van to Sabang
port. From Manila, Naga is usually an
8 to 9-hour bus ride. And Sabang is an hour away from Naga. When you get to Sabang
port there are pump boats ferry passengers to the Caramoan port hourly from 5am until noon.
These pump boats carry both cargo and passengers so you need to be a little
early to get a good seat. We arrived around 9am
at Sabang port. The tide was already high so porters carry passengers and cargo
on their shoulders from the beach to the boat. The waves were strong so you
can't help but be amazed on the porters' footing and sense of balance. The boat
ride to Caramoan took about 1 hour and 45 minutes and costs P120 per passenger.
From Caramoan port, we took a tricycle to the Centro where
our generous host was waiting for us. We rested for a while and had a very
delicious lunch. Afterwards, we headed to Gota
Beach. Here, we rented a boat to go
island hopping. We visited 5 islands. Every island is different. There's one
that has very fine sand. Parang espasol! Another one has lots of jelly fish swimming
about. But these were not the poisonous species so everything was ok.
The next day we took another tricycle ride to the Our Lady
of The Most Holy Rosary Shrine. It was a long and bumpy ride. The shrine is
nestled up on a hill. A 500 step stair way is your way up and down the shrine. The
shrine is undergoing renovations, so they are asking guests and devotees to carry
a hollow block from the base of the step to the shrine. You're not required to
do it but we decided to help the shrine. My friends shared a hollow block. I
carried one myself. But I soon found out that with my camera and camera bag, the
task was quite difficult. Anyways, after lots of rests we made it to the
shrine. The way down was a lot easier.

Our two day adventure in Caramoan was great. But I do
recommend that you allot more time when you go there so you can truly enjoy
(and take more photos) of the virgin beaches of the peninsula. You can see some more pictures here. I only wish I took more photos during the trip.
Working eight hours five days a week, have writing rackets, have photography rackets, less than four hours of sleep, the pressure, the expectations, the HEAT!...damn this summer heat! Nowadays I sleep downstairs, in our sala and on the floor, in order to escape the oven-like temperature of our apartment's second floor bedrooms....haaaaay...kakapagod!
I want you to meet Scoffy. This is Christine's new puppy. Born last December 25, he's been with us for almost a month now. Scoffy is a labrador mix, half labrador and half askal. According to his former vet, Scoffy and his brothers and sisters will most likely grow up looking pretty much like a labrador, which is good since Tintin and I really like big dogs. He's really a lively puppy. These shots were taken during his nap time since its quiet impossible capturing him when he's fully awake, he keeps smudging the camera lens with his nose. He's really cute and sweet. When you're sitting on chair, he will lie down near you and will even rest his head on your foot. Scoffy loves doing that. But when he's in a playful mood, be prepared to lose your slippers. He will bite, tag, and pull until he gets a slipper off your foot. You can see more of Scoffy here.I used my F3 for this set, there were still some shots remaining from the film I took to Dumaguete almost a year ago so I figured now was the best time to finish the roll. The light was coming from a window, but I should have turned on the indoor lights for added illumination. Anyways, i'm still happy with the results. I had the film developed and scanned at Fuji Megamall. There's much to be desired in terms of resolution, but I'm a little short on cash so I can't afford sending the roll to a more decent film studio.
Roses everywhere! I don't know about
the traffic though, I took the LRTII and MRT to the office. I'm not
that fond of V-Day, which is probably why I always get myself into
trouble. I find it too commercialized. Anyways, ApoJim has a great article on
his blog.
Passed by UP last Monday morning, I needed to shoot Malcom Hall for a project. I found these parade floats at the back of UP Film Center. It seems UP is celebrating some "arts" thing this month. Probably part of the UP's Fair Month. Unfortunately, since I was in a hurry to get home I wasn't able to take more photos.
Sa wakas! This black & white film has been stored in our fridge since we came back from our Dumaguete trip last July. It's been more than six months and finally I was able to have the film developed.
I used a 36-shot Colpan b&w film, you know the cheap one that you could buy in Hidalgo, Quiapo. I used my Nikon F3 with the 24mm lens with all the shots. Since I was bringing my 350d, I figured bringing my manual lenses would be too cumbersome since they are really heavy. So I just settled on bringing the 24mm to get a little wider shot of the landscape.
The pictures were taken at Lake Balinsasayao
a 76 ha mountain lake about 12 km west of
Sibulan, Negros Oriental. We were at Dumaguete the previous day with our host and very generous friend Sanda whose family by the way owns OrientWind Travels and Hayahay Restaurant, the latter serves really, really great native dishes. We hired a 4x4 vehicle to take us up the 1,040m mountain where the Twin Lakes were located. Lake Balinsasayao is the bigger lake and the other one, Lake Danao, can be reached by kayaking across Lake Balinsasayao or hiking along the shore. I wasn't able to reach Lake Danao because I didn't want to go kayaking, which I realized later was very stupid of me.
You can see more of the pictures in my Lake Balinsasayao in B&W album.
Our dog Brownie passed away last Saturday, he was about 11 years old. I
would like to believe that he was happy with us. For 11 years he
became more than just a pet, he was part of the family. I remembered
when he was a little bit younger I tried teaching him some simple
commands like “sit” or “stay”. Almost every morning, with
pieces of bahaw na pandesal in my pockets I would take Brownie for a walk in the looban where I shouted out commands and tried to make him
follow them. I did not know much about training a dog so I made
little progress. Most of the times we end the morning session sharing
the pieces of pandesal. But after numerous trials, lots of
frustrations and bags of pandesal, I was able to teach him to “sit.”
We both were happy with the accomplishment and I decided to stop and
focus on that one command. When I think about it now though, I think
Brownie was the one who decided to give me that one piece of glory to
show his appreciation to the mouthfuls of pandesal I gave him during
his so called training. “Sige na nga, pagbigyan ko na eto, kawawa
na eh” he might have thought back then.
These
past years were a little hard on him. Old age really started to
affect his health. His eyesight started to deteriorate and this past
year his hearing was almost gone. You can creep up on him from behind
and unless you really shout out his name very loud he won't even know
that you were there. But still, once he get to smell your hand he
will wag his tail, his meek way of saying that he still recognizes
you. Maybe I still have the smell of pandesal in my hands.
I
should have given him more attention, played with him more, took care
of him more. Even if I was only home during the weekends, I should
have spent some more time with him. But did I? No. I instead spent
most of my weekends watching TV. So now I have lots of regrets and
way poorer eyesight due to the radiation.
The
following are the last series of photos that I took of Brownie. I
took them last October 2006. The pictures are either blurry or
out-of-focus. He just won't stay still so it was hard to get a good shot. Brownie my boy, thank you for the years of friendship.
Now I eat bahaw na pandesal alone.

Happy New Year! I know the greeting's a little late but I
wasn't able to use a computer during the past few weeks exclusive for
"personal purposes." My first post for the year and I started off
with excuses, hehehe. I hope this year won't be like that, full of excuses I
mean.
I for one am very hopeful this year of the Fire Pig. Even
though elections are coming (the mud slinging has already started) and I have
started my work on a night shift schedule, I feel that I will have considerable
growth this year, and I'm not talking about my height or my weight.
And speaking of weight, the holidays really left a lot of
excess baggage. I really need to loose weight. I'm not getting enough
exercises. It seems that my morning and afternoon walks are not enough to loose
the bulges around my waist. I think it's time to get really serious. I mean it!
If I don't loose weight this first quarter then….then….then I don't loose
weight.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight
I finally decided to create an account in Multiply. I tried using phlog.net but the site was too slow and the existing themes were not that great.
